The Awre – O’Keefe’s Marathon Walk for Local Charity RESTORE

by Guest Contributor

Our Mission Office Administrator Stephen and his family together with a number of other local Solihull Welcome volunteers are walking a total of 26.2 miles between them in June in support of RESTORE.

RESTORE is a project of Birmingham Churches Together and aims to welcome, include and assist the integration of refugees and those seeking sanctuary from persecution. Passionate about supporting refugees, migrants and marginalised communities, the Columbans are proud to be supporters of this charity, and through their lay missionaries, have supported them now for many years.

Solihull Welcome, is a a a local initiative offering hospitality to asylum seekers visiting the Home Office building in Solihull. Providing refreshments, friendly conversation, practical advice, children’s clothes and toys, it is a safe and welcoming space for those signing on at the Home Office building in Solihull town centre.

Stephen, his wife Fiona, who is a volunteer at Solihull Welcome and their three children completed a 8 mile walk at the beginning of June and a pleased to have walked a further 9 miles taking a circular route that started and finished in Meriden and took in the 12th century church of St John the Baptist in beautiful Berkswell. The family’s third and final walk is scheduled for Saturday 20th June which coincides nicely with World Refugee Day.
