‘Do it Anyway’

Gertrudes C Samson is the Co-ordinator of Columban Lay Missionaries in Britain. She shares some inspiring words written by Mother Teresa which she has found, over the years, to be comforting and reassuring during times of doubt, worry and suffering.

I would like to share these famous words of Mother Teresa. They were shared with me by a former officemate in the Philippines in the form of poster that she personally made way back in year 2000.

I must admit being a Christian and doing God’s work or ministry is not easy all the time. Indeed there are challenging times and the words of Mother Teresa have been helpful! I recall reading the poster many times over the years, especially when the going gets tough!

The verses below were reportedly written on the wall of Mother Teresa’s home for children in Calcutta, India, and are widely attributed to her.

The poster is not with me here in Britain but the message and its impact remain in my heart. It has continues to inspire me over the years.! It has been helpful to me, and I hope it will continually inspire, encourage, and strengthen others to keep going and doing God’s work even when things get tough.

Do it Anyway

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centred. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.
