PRIEST: As we start our Lenten journey, we know we need the help of our God. May we strive to turn our hearts to the Lord.
READER: Recognising that we have been called to a covenant with God, we ask the Lord to help us live up to our responsibilities as a People of God. Lord in your Mercy: hear our Prayer.
We pray that during this holy season we may follow Jesus’ example and overcome the temptations of the devil, by listening to the ‘word of God’, worshipping God alone and by not putting the Lord to the test, but putting our trust in the mercy and compassion of God. Lord in your Mercy: hear our Prayer.
We pray for the Church throughout the world that Christian communities may be seen as a people who live by the law of Love and compassion without distinction of ethnic difference or rank. Lord in your Mercy: hear our Prayer.
Let us pray for Pope Francis and for all young people. May they overcome all temptations of the world and be an inspiration to follow Christ in all things. Lord in your Mercy: hear our Prayer.
Let us pray for the world’s leaders and diplomats that they become true servants of the people and avoid the temptations of power, wealth and fame. Lord in your Mercy: hear our Prayer.
Let us pray for the poor of the world struggling against injustice and oppression. May we stand with them. Lord in your Mercy: hear our Prayer.
Let us pray for Missionaries who are faced with danger and violence, may they be granted the faith and courage they need today. Lord in your Mercy: hear our Prayer.
Let us pray for all who are sick and for all who are in hospital and for those who have no access to medical care. Lord in your Mercy: hear our Prayer.
Let us pray for those who have recently died… and for all our dead… and for all who mourn that they may be comforted. Lord in your Mercy: hear our Prayer.
In the silence of our hearts, let us pray for our own families and friends.
Let us ask Mary the Mother of the Lord to pray with us. Hail Mary …
PRIEST: Almighty and ever living God, we give thanks for the gift of faith to overcome the temptations of the Devil.
Help us to be ready to share that blessing with those close to us; we ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN.
