Intercessions for the 33rd Sunday of the year

by Fr. Denis Carter

Fr. Denis Carter has kindly prepared intercessions for the 33rd Sunday of the year.

PRIEST: United in the faith we have proclaimed together, we now turn to the Lord with all our longings.

READER: Let us pray for Christian women and men in every corner of the earth. In God’s infinite love we have each been called to use our talents for the good of those around us. Let us pray that, we are able to increase and develop them and be acceptable to the Lord.

Lord hear us. Response: Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray that our minds and hearts may be filled with all that is good, pure and noble and so become living examples of God’s generous love for us.

Lord hear us. Response: Lord graciously hear us.

We pray that we may never follow the corrupt and powerful of the world, by  exploiting and using people for our profit. May we risk being rejected by the world in our discipleship to Christ.

Lord hear us. Response: Lord graciously hear us.

We pray that we always see and value those around us, as sisters and brothers of the Lord. May we always give them the respect and dignity as daughters and sons of the Light.

Lord hear us. Response: Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for all those who are working for understanding and tolerance in our multi-faith world. We pray especially that we, will take the lead in building bridges of friendship and understanding with other faiths in our neighbourhood.

Lord hear us. Response: Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for the people of violence, those who hate and destroy, and those whose indifference encourage acts of evil. May they experience the Love of God and accept a just and peaceful way of change and reconciliation.

Lord hear us. Response: Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for all who mourn that they may be comforted. We remember all who are sick, those in hospital and those who are housebound. We remember especially the sick of our own parish congregation and our own families wherever they may be.

Lord hear us. Response: Lord graciously hear us.

Now let us pray for a few moments in silence for our own needs and intentions.

Let us ask Mary the Mother of the Lord to pray with us: Hail Mary…

PRIEST: Almighty and ever-living God
we are the Body of Christ and your church in this place.
As we share in this Eucharist together
may our gifts and skills glorify you.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

AMEN.
