Intercessions for the 5th Sunday of Easter

by Fr. Denis Carter

Fr. Denis Carter has kindly prepared intercessions for the 5th Sunday of Easter - 28th April 2024.

PRIEST: Today we are reminded by the word of God that our Love must not be mere words or talk. It must be alive and active and real. Let us proclaim the Gospel with joy and give thanks to the Lord for the love he grants in our need.

READER: Lord help us be aware of the suffering of God’s people especially the outcast, lost, and unemployed and the homeless. May we have the courage to come to their aid led by the love of God. Lord hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

We pray for those enslaved by depression, illness and infirmity. May governments, the health services and carers truly put their patients welfare before the cost. Lord hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for the marginalised, those who suffer persecution because of ethnic origin, faith or lifestyle. May we remember they are also our Sisters and Brothers. Lord hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for all young people. May they answer Jesus’ call to make their home in Him and allow Jesus to make His home in them. Lord hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for Missionaries. May they be granted the faith and courage they need at this time renewed in their love of God and service of the people. Lord hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for the leaders and diplomats of all nations. May they work together pooling resources to confront and overcome the threats to our world, to humanity and creation. Lord hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for those who risk their lives for the process of peace and justice. Lord hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for those who have recently died… and for all our dead… May they be granted the fullness of life in Christ. Lord hear us; Lord graciously hear us.

In the silence of our hearts, let us pray for our own families and friends.

Let us ask Mary the Mother of the Lord to pray with us: Hail Mary…

PRIEST: God, our heavenly Father,
we give thanks and praise for the gift of being your people and making your home among us.
May we be always ready to share the Gospel of Hope in word and deed, with all who are in need; we ask this through Christ our Lord.

AMEN
