On November 15th, 2024, the Korean region of the Missionary Society of St. Columban marked a truly special occasion with the ordination of three new priests and one deacon. Columban Missionaries Fr. Joseph Park, Fr. Joseph Seong and Fr. Ambrosio Sim were ordained to the priesthood, and Fr. Jeongrak Verano Lee was ordained to the diaconate at Myenongdong Cathedral in the Archdiocese of Seol, by Bishop Paul Lee Kyung Sang. The ceremony drew over a thousand guests, filling the sacred space to capacity. This significant event celebrated not only the lives and vocations of those being ordained, but the shared faith and joy of the wider Columban community also.

The highlight of the ordination was the liturgy, which, despite its solemn and formal nature, radiated a sense of jubilation and lightness thanks to the wit and warmth of the presiding bishop, Paul Lee Kyung-sang. His humorous yet reverent approach created an atmosphere where everyone, from the ordained to the attendees, could celebrate the living presence of Christ with uplifted hearts and smiles. The liturgical solemnity was beautifully balanced with the palpable joy that permeated the ceremony, making it an unforgettable experience for all.

Following the ordination, a reception brought everyone together to share food and fellowship. This gathering was more than a meal—it was a tangible expression of the communion experienced during the liturgy. Guests continued to celebrate Christ’s presence in a more personal and communal way, strengthening their bonds with one another.

Another unforgettable aspect of the celebration was the presence of Columban missionaries who travelled from RMUS such as the Philippines, Fiji, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Japan, and South America. Their heartfelt congratulations and joyful participation added an international and deeply missionary dimension to the day.

The event also provided a rare opportunity for Columban missionaries, past and present lay missionaries, and the extended Columban family, to reconnect. Stories were shared, memories were relived, and lives were celebrated, all within the spirit of joy and gratitude. This day truly embodied the global and communal spirit of the Columban mission.

Let us pray...

Let us continue to pray for an abundance of vocations, that God may inspire hearts to answer His call to serve as priests, sisters, deacons, missionaries and lay leaders in His Church.
