Who Are the Columbans?
For over 60 years, the Columban Missionaries have worked in Britain, bringing the experience of mission overseas into local communities. Through interfaith dialogue, justice and peace initiatives, and care for creation, Columbans encourage active participation in the mission of God.
What is the Programme?
The Faith in Action Volunteer Programme is a unique opportunity for young adults (aged 21-30) to dedicate a year to mission and social justice work. Based in Birmingham, one of the UK’s most vibrant and diverse cities, volunteers engage in projects connected to refugees and asylum seekers, interfaith initiatives, and justice and peace education.
What You’ll Do
- Support refugees and asylum seekers through initiatives such as Fatima House, Restore, and St Chad’s Sanctuary.
- Engage in interfaith work, promoting relationships between people of different faiths and cultures.
- Develop and deliver workshops for schools and parishes on faith, justice, and peace.
- Collaborate with justice and peace organisations, contributing to advocacy and education.
- Reflect and grow spiritually, with mentorship, training and a dedicated retreat experience.

- Role Title: Faith in Action Volunteer
- Location: Birmingham, UK
- Term: 15th September 2025 – 28th August 2026
- Support: Accommodation, travel expenses, and subsistence costs covered.
- Mentors: Mauricio Silva (Interreligious Dialogue Coordinator) and James Trewby (Justice and Peace Coordinator).

- Have a strong sense of faith and commitment to social justice.
- Are willing to engage with diverse communities and different worldviews.
- Are self-motivated, adaptable and eager to learn.
- Have a passion for working with young people and inspiring action.
