Milad un Nabi is an occasion when Muslims remember and celebrate the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. It is celebrated across the world in the third month of the Muslim lunar calendar. The Prophet Muhammad is deemed to be the chief of all the Prophets sent on earth and it is to him that the Holy Qur’an was revealed. Muslims who celebrate Milad-un-Nabi remember and celebrate his life by telling stories to their children. Some will hold night-long prayers and send Milad un Nabi cards to their friends and family. In some countries, streets and mosques will be decorated and illuminated at night. Some Muslims might decide to fast during daylight hours, some families will choose to hold Milad un Nabi feasts. It is common to recite special prayers and poems or sing songs on this day to honour the Prophet Muhammad. Some Muslims also mark Milad un Nabi by donating to charity.
