Columban Prayers - Biological Diversity

Lord,
We thank you for the magnificence of our Common Home, planet Earth, which reflects your diversity, harmony and unity.
Nurture the seeds of wonder and awe which you have planted within our hearts so that we might come to a deeper appreciation of the extraordinary diversity of life that surrounds us.
May we learn to see every living creature and plant as an expression of your creativity, genius and goodness.
Grant us the wisdom and humility to recognise our role as stewards within the web of life and teach us to acknowledge our responsibility in nurturing and sustaining the many other forms of life that surround us.
May we defend those parts of the natural world which are threatened by destruction, and strive to restore those species facing extinction.
May we live with childlike simplicity, complete trust in you, and profound gratitude for your blessings, so that all of creation can flourish and give glory to you, the Creator.
Amen.
