‘Show the Love’ on 14th February

Columban Missionaries in Britain are proud members of The Climate Coalition. Ellen Teague explores how their upcoming ‘Show the Love’ campaign connects climate action, community care, and the Gospel call to protect our common home.

Every February, people across the UK make and share green hearts to show what’s at the heart of the future they want to protect. The Cliamte Coalition’s ‘Show the Love’ campaign highlights that climate and nature action is rooted in love, connection and community.

On the 14th February, The Climate Coalition invites people to send a green heart to their politicians. Each green heart will carry a short, personal message about what is at the heart of your community – whether that’s clean air, warm homes, local green spaces, secure livelihoods, or the wellbeing of children and neighbours. These messages don’t need to be long or technical. They’re powerful because they’re personal, visible and rooted in place.

At the heart of a thriving economy and a healthy future is climate and nature action.

In 2026, ‘Show the Love’ focuses on the things people from all walks of life love and want to protect in our communities, such as local parks to community centres, football pitches to clean rivers, freedom from fear of flooding. At a time when politics can feel divided, ‘Show the Love’ highlights that there is more that unites us than divides us: a desire to protect our homes, our health, our nature, our livelihoods, and the future we pass on. Politicians should see that support for climate and nature action is grounded in everyday care and local pride – not abstract politics. And climate and nature action is at the heart of strong communities.

The Columban Missionaries in Britain are proud members of The Climate Coalition, a network that brings organisations together to drive collective action and advocate for meaningful political change. As members, we stand alongside communities across the UK calling on the government to take a global lead on climate and nature protection. This partnership reflects our commitment to integral ecology, supporting efforts to safeguard creation, care for the vulnerable, and ensure a sustainable future for all.

“In the same way that Columban missionaries express God’s love by serving the poor and the marginalised, this initiative shows that caring for the climate and nature is grounded in love, connection, and stewardship of our common home,” explains James Trewby, Columban Justice and Peace Co-ordinator in Britain. “By encouraging people to send green hearts and advocate for a healthier, safer environment, the campaign reflects our priority of promoting integral ecology, where care for the earth, local communities, and future generations are inseparable aspects of living out the Gospel.”
