Intercessions for the 14th Sunday of the year

by Fr. Denis Carter

Fr. Denis Carter has kindly prepared intercessions for the 14th Sunday of the year.

PRIEST: Strengthened in the faith we have proclaimed together, let us turn to the Lord with all our needs.

READER: Let us pray for the Church throughout the world, May we recognize and believe that Jesus is the word of God among us, and so believe, have faith and be healed by our Lord. Lord hear us: Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for each other, and especially for missionaries, that we will find joy in the Eucharist we share today, the strength to be witnesses to hope, love and faith in Christ, despite all who would mock our faith or discourage us. Lord hear us: Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for the new Government as they take office. May they truly be servants of the people. Lord hear us: Lord graciously hear us.

May those with the power and means, care with compassion for the  destitute, homeless and marginalized in our society. May they be strengthened in their faith.

Lord hear us: Lord graciously hear us.

Aware of the burdens that each of us carries – the worries, the anxieties and the difficulties in our lives; let us pray that we will have the courage to share our crosses with the help of the Jesus, in the sure hope of the Resurrection. Lord hear us: Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for all who bear the Cross of disability, ill-health and terminal sickness. May they be strengthened in their journey; encouraged by our support and prayers. Lord hear us. Lord graciously hear us.

Let us pray for those who have recently died, and for those whose anniversaries are at this time. Eternal rest grant unto them…

Now let us pray for a few moments in silence for our own needs and intentions.

Let us ask Mary the Mother of the Lord to pray with us as we say: Hail Mary…

PRIEST: Almighty and ever-living God.
you know our deepest needs and anxieties.
As we share in this Eucharist together
open our hearts to understand your plan for us
and strengthen us to do your will.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

AMEN
