Columban Prayers - Prayer for Lent

Prayer for Lent

Merciful God

Thank you for sending Jesus to seek out those who are lost or abandoned, to heal those who are bruised and broken, and to strengthen those who are carrying heavy crosses.

Grant us the grace to recognise our deafness to Jesus’ call to repentance, as well as our blindness towards the suffering of others and the painful destruction of the natural world.

In the midst of our noisy and fearful world, may we learn to nurture an attentive and listening heart.

Through prayer, may we learn to trust in your providence and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us.

Through fast and abstinence, may we grow in awareness of our own fragility and vulnerability, so that we can become more compassionate towards others.

May we come to a greater realisation of the abundant blessings you have given us, and share more deeply in the joy of the risen Christ this Easter.

Amen.
