Fr Tom Ryan was born in 1951 in County Galway and ordained a Columban priest in 1982. He was involved in an Overseas Training Programme in Peru between 1979 and 1981 and that is where he was assigned between 1982 and 1999. He worked in the parish of Our Lady of the Rosary in Lima, for 19 years.
Now based in London, Tom has been part of the Mission Appeals Team for the past 17 years and has visited literally hundreds of parishes and spoken at Masses to raise awareness of Columban Mission. He has developed the parish visit into an opportunity to make face-to-face contact with supporters in the local area, visiting them in their homes and thanking them for their faithful and generous support.
“Many people have supported us for years but have never met a Columban”, he says, adding a quote from Columban founder Bishop Edward Galvin, that “we have no right to ask for anything which we are too busy to acknowledge”. Tom assures supporters that “they are valued, prayed for and gratefully remembered”.
